Top-Seeded Hounds Sweep Quincy to Open GLVC Tournament

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Day one of the GLVC Championship Tournament is in the books for the UIndy women's tennis team, as they once again showed why they are the No. 1 team in the nation with a 4-0 clean sweep of the West Division's fourth seed, the Quincy Hawks.

On the windy courts of Plainfield East High School, the Greyhounds meant business, only dropping two games across all of the matches played.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Balls started to fly all across the courts and the Greyhounds dominated like usual, dropping the Hawks doubles competitors with 6-0 wins by both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings.

Seniors Alina Kislitskaya and Kristina Lagoda, a day after being selected as All-GLVC honorees, proved they were deserving as they struck the first blow. GLVC Freshman of the Year Sofia Sharonova and Maria Solnyshkina finished out doubles for the Hounds. The No. 1 doubles pairing in the country of reining GLVC Player of the Year Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova did not get to finish their match.

The Greyhounds continued to show their authority on the courts in singles, as two of the last three matches would end in perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweeps. The first of which was Kislitskaya, the No. 18 singles player in the country, as she wrapped up in the minimum 12 games. Sharonova replicated that with her own 6-0, 6-0 win. And to wrap up the day, the No. 5 spot saw Solnyshkina drop only two games across two sets to win 6-0, 6-2.

Alekseeva, Novikova and Lagoda's matches were left unfinished.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds advanced to the conference semifinals as they move to the campus of Lewis University to take on West two-seed Missouri St. Louis tomorrow at 10 a.m ET .
