INDIANAPOLIS – Freshly tabbed with its
highest ranking since 2016, the No. 7 UIndy softball team (23-2) celebrated with a pair of non-conference wins Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds took care of visiting Lake Erie College by scores of 6-1 and 10-0, upping their winning streak to 16.

The bottom of the first inning in game two was interrupted by a 90-minute lightning/rain delay.

The visitors struck first with a solo home run in the top of the second but it proved the lone run of the game – and ultimately the day – for the Storm. Senior starter
Hallie Waters (12-1) settled in to retire 16 of the next 18 batters she faced on the way to earning the pitching win.

The Greyhound bats offered support in the form of five extra-base hits, including second-inning homers from
Taylor Danielson and
Brooke Montgomery. Both added a double in the fifth inning.

Kamrie Foster plated the final run with a successful squeeze bunt in the bottom of the fifth.

Immediately following the aforementioned delay, sophomore
Emily O'Connor sent a towering shot to deep center field for a two-run homer and the rout of on. The Hounds tacked on three runs in the second and a five-spot in the third to rule run the Storm and seal the sweep.

Lexy Rees added her own two-run blast, while
Sydnie Foster,
Brooke Montgomery and
Taylor Danielson each had an RBI double. Sophomore
Maddy Stout earned her first hit and RBI of the year with a pinch-hit single in the third.

Meanwhile, freshman
Kenzee Smith (10-0) was once again masterful in the circle, as the Indy native spun a two-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking zero in five innings of work.

The Hounds have not given up more than two runs during their entire 16-game win streak.
