GREENWOOD, Ind. - With sunny skies the No. 1 UIndy women's tennis team took down their third GLVC opponent of the season on Friday with a 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The recently crowned No. 1 doubles duo in the country, juniors Nikol Alekseeva and Anna Novikova, proved they deserve that title, setting the stage for the match with a 6-3 victory. The Prairie Stars however struck back taking down the No. 3 doubles team in the country, seniors Alina Kislitskaya and Kristina Lagoda, by a score of 3-6. UIS would not field a third doubles pairing resulting in a Hounds doubles win.
A day after being crowned the No. 1 singles player in the country, Alekseeva again proved her dominance with a win in straight sets and a pair of 6-0 victories. This marks the ninth time this season that Alekseeva has beaten her opposition in straight sets. In the No. 3 singles spot, sophomore Sofia Sharonova followed up with a straight sets win of her own at 6-4 and 6-1.
Freshman Sahra Bouchaala continued the trend of straight set victories for the Hounds with a 6-4 and 6-1 win. To wrap up the matches for the Hounds it was the No. 42 singles player in the country Lagoda coming away with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
The Prairie Stars did not field players in the No. 5 and 6 singles slots.
