Hounds Fall to Lions in GLVC Semi's

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis Baseball Team fell 9-0 to the Lindenwood Lions in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Tournament on Saturday night.

With emotions flowing in the dugout – The Hounds simply were unable to find a way to score on the Lion's home turf. Despite the score deficit, the Greyhound bench never went mute, howling and calling to their teammates each play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a tooth clenching scoreless four innings and a superb pitching performance by freshman Xavier Rivas (3-1) who posted seven strikeouts and walked three in 4.1 inning.

"For a true freshman to step up like that was unbelievable," Pitching Coach Landon Hutchinson added. "For him to keep us in the game for four innings, it's outstanding."

The Lions bats woke up and runs began to add onto the board in the top of the fifth.

After scoring five in the fifth inning, the Lions continued by adding another four in the sixth. This would put them up 9-0 and secure the Lions trip to the GLVC Championship final game.

The Hounds were not quite at the plate – out hitting the Lions ten to seven. Led by senior Hunter Waning, Isaac Bair, and Alex Vela who posted a pair of hits apiece.

"I can't express how grateful I am for this group of young men," Head Coach Al Ready. "Each and every one of them is a leader and will be proud to serve their communities in whatever way possible!"

The Greyhounds end their season 27- 21 overall and 19-13 in conference play.

"These past two seasons haven't been easy considering everything that we've have been through and our seniors have met every challenge head on," Ready added. "They've made a lot of friends and memories. I'm honored to have been their coach."

Niko Marshall (5-1) took the win for Lindenwood who struck out five and walked none in 5.2 inning pitched. Brody Roach was credited with the save for the Hounds posting five strikeouts and walking one in 3.1 inning pitched.
