ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - At the end of a three day
GLVC Championship Tournament, the East Division top-seeded fifth ranked UIndy men's tennis team lost to the West No. 1 seed and No. 22 Southwest Baptists Bearcats, 4-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats jumped out early on the Hounds winning doubles 2-0.
Renato Lima and
Maximilian Witthaus lost their match 6-3 and
Tom Zeuch and
Yoann Viel lost 6-1.
Needing a comeback in the singles portion, the Hounds opened with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-sets win by Zeuch in the No. 2 slot. The Bearcats fought off the Hounds' efforts with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Viel. That was followed up by David Szeri for SBU downing
Nikolaj Talimaa 6-2, 6-4.
Dominik Koenig did his part to keep the Hounds alive with a straight sets win of his own, 6-4, 6-2.
The final match of the day would boil down to
Renato Lima, the No. 27 singles player in the country, versus the No. 7 singles player Adham Gaber of SBU. Lima jumped out early with a 6-2 first set win. Gaber prevented the sweep with a 6-3 second-set win. It would come down to the wire in set three, with Gaber edging out Lima 7-6.

The Hounds will hope to keep this loss from slowing them down as they continue their postseason run as they await word on the 2021 NCAA DII Midwest Regional field, set to be released Tuesday, May 4. The regional is slated for May 8-9 in Midland, Mich.
