ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Throughout the regular season, the No. 10 UIndy men's lacrosse team (10-2, 8-2 GLVC) ran toe-to-toe with No. 11 Lindenwood as the top program in the conference (10-3, 9-2). The conference standings, the series split, the USILA rankings and on Saturday night, the 2021 Men's Lacrosse GLVC Championship game. Austin Barnett had one of the best performances by a Greyhound goal keeper in a conference title game, the senior collecting 15 saves against the Lions' 57 shots on the way to a 10-9 final score.
INS & OUTS
Lindenwood was able to throw the first punch, netting the first two goals of the game within the first two and a half minutes of action. It didn't take long for UIndy to respond with their own streak though, Matt Schoeneck and Kyle Basch scoring goals less than 40 minutes apart. Drew Billig's passing found multiple open looks for the Hounds in the first quarter of action, the junior assisting on two of the three scores. After being down by one goal at the end of the first half, the Greyhounds were able to run at the Lions' pace in the second quarter trading blows up until halftime. Owain Braddock and Wyatt Auyer each provided a score in the second segment of the contest, but the Hounds still found themselves down one score going into the half.
The Lions continued to outshoot UIndy in the third quarter, but the two teams found themselves at the same deficit after the 15-minute period. Brian Robb connected with Billig to provide the Hounds' only goal of the quarter, Barnett tallying four saves on Lindenwood's five shots on goal. The Hounds stepped on the gas pedal in the final quarter of action, wailing three unanswered goals on the Lions with seven minutes left in the game to push a two-goal lead. Kansai Garey and Auyer each provided both a goal and an assist in the process, Braddock slamming a goal as well in UIndy's late run. With a tight contest in the final two minutes, Schoeneck would slam the nail in the coffin on the Greyhounds' final goal, pushing back to a two-goal lead in the Hounds' favor would be too much for Lindenwood.

HOUND BYTES
Assistant Coach Austin Grimes on the team's momentum …
"We knew after a slow start in the first half that we only had 30 minutes left guaranteed in the season. The guys knew what they needed to do in order to get the outcome that we wanted. The message they kept saying was to play for the Hounds that came back for their extra year."
