INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis placed third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, as announced by the league office this week. The Greyhounds combined for 76 points in the final standings, one point behind runner-up Lewis University.
Points are allocated for the Commissioner's Cup based on the athletic department's finish in the GLVC's postseason tournaments in men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, and baseball. All 15 Conference members sponsor these core sports at the intercollegiate level.
UIndy earned the maximum 15 points by winning the
GLVC title in softball last month, while securing second-place points with an appearance in the men's soccer conference final. The Greyhounds have finished in the top three in the Cup standing five times since 2014, including two wins.
Instituted prior to the 2002-03 season, the Commissioner's Cup has had six different institutions stake claim to the award. Southern Indiana captured its third Cup in 2020-21, leading all active members. UIndy earned possession of the traveling trophy on two occasions, topping the league in both 2013-14 and 2015-16. No other active members can claim more than one Commissioner's Cup.
