INDIANAPOLIS- The 2021-22 UIndy Wrestling schedule was released Wednesday, with the return of the Midwest Classic and a move to a new Super Region highlighting the season which will return to a full slate of dates after COVID-19 shortened last season.
"We are excited to have a full season and move to a new region where we can build on some of our GLVC rivalries," Head Coach Jason Warthan said. "We have a very competitive schedule that will prepare our guys for the toughest regional in the country."Â
UIndy opens its season in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Nov. 2, with DIII Defiance coming to town. The Greyhounds then head to Maryville's Kaufman Brand Open, which will feature many of the teams in Super Region 4, UIndy's new region this season.
The Greyhounds will then jump back into dual action Nov. 14, heading to Edmond, OK for a pair of duals with perennial powerhouse Central Oklahoma and Newman. The annual trip to the Findlay Open is the next weekend, with Indiana Little State then after the Thanksgiving Break.Â
The 42nd Midwest Classic returns to Nicoson Hall Dec. 18-19, with 40 teams coming to Indianapolis for the annual event after last year's COVID cancellation. Sixteen of last year's NCAA Division II National Championship Top 25 will come to UIndy for the 42nd edition of the MWC, including all of Super Region 4's 11 teams.Â
After the turn of the New Year, the Greyhounds will jump right back into it at the NWCA National Duals Jan. 6-7. The GLVC season starts the next week, with UIndy opening the conference slate at Maryville Jan. 13.Â
Ouachita Baptist, Davenport, and newcomers William Jewell will come to UIndy Jan. 16 to continue GLVC duals, with Lindenwood then coming to the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Jan. 19. The conference slate closes Jan. 23 and Jan. 26 with the Greyhounds on the road at Drury and McKendree.
The Greyhound Duals and Greyhound Open close out the regular season Feb. 5-6, with 10 teams coming for the dual event, followed by the annual open the next day. New this year, the 2022 GLVC Champion will be crowned through a dual tournament event, Feb. 12 at Lindenwood.
UIndy will head back to Lindenwood Feb. 26 for the Super Region 4 tournament, with  those qualifying through that event wrestling March 11-12 at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in St. Louis at Chaifetz Arena.Â
