INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team let a first half lead slip away on Thursday night, falling to Lewis University 70-69 in GLVC action. After a pair of losses this week, the Hounds currently sit at 10-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Senior guard Cory Miller Jr. scored a career high 29 points while draining a career-best five three's.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy came out of the gate firing, scoring on their first five possessions to take a 13-2 lead less than three minutes in. Jesse Bingham and Dee Montgomery combined for three straight three's before Kendrick Tchoua slammed down an alley-oop on the assist from Cory Miller Jr.
The Hounds took a 37-28 lead to the break after shooting 46.4% in the first half including eight three's. Montgomery was a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc.
A fast break lay up from Jakobie Robinson at the 11:39 mark gave the Hounds their largest lead of the second half at 11. UIndy led by nine with six minutes remaining but the Flyers stormed back with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 61 with four minutes left.
The final four minutes saw three lead changes as Tchoua and Bingham both notched game-tying lay ups. A three-pointer with 2:21 remaining gave the Flyers the lead for good. Miller Jr. went two-for-two at the charity stripe with six second left to cut the deficit to one. On the inbound Lewis turned the ball over under UIndy's basket, giving the Hounds the ball back with five second remaining but the Hounds were unable to get a shot off.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bingham added 13 points along with seven rebounds while dishing out a team-high seven assists.
- Robinson paced the Hounds with three blocks.
- The Hounds out-rebounded the Flyers 35-27. This is their first loss of the season while winning the rebound battle.
UP NEXT
The Hounds have a rare week long break from game action. They won't return to the court until next Thursday, January 27 when they travel to Quincy University.
