Greyhounds Fall in GLVC Quarterfinal to No. 19 McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team fell in the first round of the GLVC tournament to No. 19 ranked and second-seeded McKendree Bearcats by a score of 2-1. The loss ends the Greyhounds season with an overall 5-7-5 record, and a 4-5-4 record in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats jumped out early on the offensive, putting on the pressure that McKendree has been known for all season, forcing two big opportunities before the 10th minute. The Greyhounds held on however, fighting back McKendree off of a clutch save by MaKenna Nickens at the 12th minute.

The Greyhounds went on to control the pace in the first half from that point, forcing a penalty kick at the 31st minute, with Kiki Sauceda having the opportunity to put the Greyhounds in the lead. And giving the Hounds a lead, she did, burying her opportunity in the top left of the net making it a 1-0 game. That lead held going into the second.

The Bearcats came out of the locker room on Leemon field with a new fire, attacking fast and evening the score at 1-1 at the 49th minute. Nickens continued to command the defense, getting another save at the 55th minute. The Bearcats however, continued to pepper the Greyhound keeper with shots, with another one at the 66th minute finding the back of the net to give the Bearcats their first lead of the contest.

That final goal turned out to be the decider, ending the contest at a 2-1 win in favor of th4 No. 2 seed, sending them to a semifinal match with the Maryville Saints, who beat the Drury Panthers earlier Sunday afternoon.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Holly Cox on the season ending game...
"Tough way to end season. I thought we had a good first half, but second half we were a little more inconsistent. We needed to play a full 90 minute game in order to beat a tough McKendree team. Just want to thank the seniors for all their hard work, they will be a tough group to replace. We have a young group returning, so spring preparation is going to be extremely important if we want to go further next season."
