KANSAS CITY, MO – Late on Friday night, the University of Indianapolis women's soccer team faced the second-best team in the GLVC in the Rockhurst Hawks on their home turf. The Hawks flew away victorious in the contest with a 2-1 result. The loss moves the Greyhounds to 3-4-4 on the season, and 2-2-3 in GLVC play
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks started the game as the aggressors, scoring their first goal of the game on their first shot at only the third minute of play. From that point the Hounds were playing catch-up in the first half as they tried to even the score.
A hard shot at the top left corner by
Maria Herrero at the 14th minute marked the first solid offense opportunity for the Greyhounds, and their first shot on goal.
Alexi Hardie,
Maddy Theis and
Elena Espinosa all grabbed shots on goal in the first period as well. Despite the opportunities, the Hawks kept the Hounds scoreless in the first.
To start the second, early pressure by UIndy was responded to fiercely as the Hawks took three shots in just a two-minute span. Â The offensive onslaught of the Hawks eventually earned them their second goal of the contest, putting the ball in the back of the net at the 67th minute. The Hounds didn't let the two-score lead stand for long as just under two minutes after kickoff,
Sarah Wegener sent a pass from
Kiki Sauceda right into the Hawks net, making it a one score contest once again.
Sauceda attempted to force the tie with a shot on goal at the 76th minute but fell short, and the Greyhounds fell in the match.
UP NEXT
The Hounds stay in Missouri as they take on William Jewell in Liberty, Mo., on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
