#8 UIndy Races Past Bearcats, Stays Unbeaten

LEBANON, Ill.—The eighth-ranked UIndy football team upped its record to a perfect 5-0 with a 38-23 win at McKendree University Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds got contributions across the board, but none bigger than Toriano Clinton's 317 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns.

Clinton racked up 272 rushing yards on the afternoon, including 199 in the second half. Four of his scores came on the ground, with another coming on a 35-yard reception in the second quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 17-6 at the half, McKendree crafted a 10-play, 68-yard touchdown drive to start to third quarter to creep within four points. But whatever momentum generated was quickly stomped out, as Clinton sprinted 77 yards to the house on the very next play from scrimmage.

Clinton added two more TDs in the final 21 minutes to keep the Bearcats at a safe distance. It marked the second time the Chicago native found the end zone five times in a game, both coming versus McKendree (10/20/18).

UIndy had a couple of notable performances on the other side of the ball as well. Defensive lineman Dylan Shelton recorded a personal-best three sacks – all in the first half. The Frankfort, Ill., product now has five sacks in the last two games combined. Safety Michael Brown amassed a game- and career-high 11 tackles, while cornerback Landry Mavungu garnered an interception and subsequent 24-yard return at the end of the game to ice it.

Meanwhile, Colin Seymour produced the only points from a Greyhound not named Toriano. The freshman kicker went 5-for-5 on extra point attempts after getting the Hounds on the board with a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Clinton did his rushing damage on just 19 carries, averaging 13.4 yards per attempt. His final rushing total was good for his seventh career game of 200 yards or more and third of at least 250.
-QB Connor Kinnett completed 8-of-20 passes for 108 yards. He added 68 rushing yards, including a 61-yard keeper at the end of the first quarter that set up the Hounds' first TD.
-Freshman punter Ryan Zoeller was called upon just three times Saturday, with both of his second-half punts pinning the 'Cats inside their own three-yard line.
-The Bearcats finished the game just 3-for-14 (.214) on third-down conversions. They came into the weekend leading the nation in the category at 58 percent.
-Tight ends Kevin McNelis and Ethan Hand each caught a pass today, with the latter notching his first reception of the season.
