Greyhounds Eliminated From NCAA Tournament With Loss To Parkside

ASHLAND, Ohio – With the rain falling the full length of the match, the No. 7 seed UIndy men's soccer team was eliminated from the 2022 NCAA Division II Tournament after suffering a 4-2 loss at the hands of No. 10-seeded Parkside on Friday afternoon. The Rangers advance to battle Ashland in the second round while UIndy concludes its 2022 campaign with a 10-5-3 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds found the scoreboard first in the 17th minute off some good ball movement and a lucky bounce. Michael Tselios fired a shot near the net that was deflected off a Parkside defender which then saw the ball bounce right back to Tselios. With the defense out of place, he corralled the rebound and sent another shot which landed in the back of the net to put UIndy up 1-0.

Despite this early advantage for the Greyhounds, Parkside added the equalizer in the 34th minute which took the match as a draw into the half. Through the first 45 minutes, UIndy led the way with seven shots while the Rangers had five. Both teams were even on corner kicks (three), fouls committed (seven), and yellow cards received (one).

Parkside came out in the second half and took its first lead of the match in the 54th minute. However, not to be denied, UIndy came storming back with the equalizer in 68th minute when Jakob David floated a corner kick to the opposite side of the net which saw Niklas Thanhofer meet it with his head and execute his first goal of the year.

Despite this answer from the Hounds, the Rangers scored back-to-back unanswered goals in the 72nd and 82nd minutes to lock up the 4-2 victory.
