Hounds Grind Out Road Win at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The UIndy men's basketball team (3-0) earned a huge road victory on Sunday afternoon, downing Grand Valley (2-2) by a score of 72-66 inside GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in a thrilling in-region battle.

Kendrick Tchoua led the Hounds with a team-high 12 points, while securing nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Tchoua capped a 12-2 UIndy run to end the first half with a tip slam, the Lakers refused to go down quietly on their home floor. GVSU answered with a 15-2 stretch of its own after the break, leading by as many as seven with under 10 minutes remaining.

The Greyhounds snagged a 54-53 lead just moments later, following a dunk from Jesse Bingham at the 7:36 mark of the second half. However, it was Bruno Williams who gave UIndy the lead for good 79 seconds later with a four-point play from the top of the key.

UIndy had an answer for each GVSU bucket down the stretch, including back-to-back field goals from Tchoua. Adding to the momentum slam with 53 seconds left from Bingham, David Ejah and Jakobie Robinson combined to sink 3-of-4 from the charity stripe to pull the Hounds away for the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Of Tchoua's nine rebounds, four came on the offensive end.
- The Greyhounds limited the Lakers to 1-of-11 from 3-point range after a hot start to the second half, while holding the hosts to just 38.6 percent shooting from the field throughout 40 minutes.
- Bingham scored eight of his 11 points after the break, including a pair of dunks in the waning moments.
- The UIndy bench proved instrumental once again, accounting for 42 of the team's 72 points. Ejah and Williams each finished with 11, while Jarvis Walker recorded nine.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Paul Corsaro on the team down the stretch…
"Grit. Toughness. All of those cliches people talk about all the time. We battled. We have a selfless group; Aaron Etherington gave us unbelievable minutes and he was there cheering on his teammates. Jarvis nine points in 11 minutes and there he was cheering on his teammates at the end. This is a group that only cares about UIndy winning and it really makes it a joy to coach."

Corsaro on the contributions from Williams…
"Bruno showed us the All-GLVC Bruno Williams today. I knew once he started a playing with us, a light bulb would go off and it would be special. And it was."

Bingham on the team overcoming adversity on the road…
"It's always great to get a road win. It's a message to our guys that we're on the road, it's us against everybody: team, student section, fans, everybody. And it doesn't matter. It's always a focus for us to stay together and do the little things that got us here."

Bingham on now being "the guy" down the stretch…
"It's a different role for me and I'm still getting used to it. I thank all my teammates and coaches that put all of their faith in me. That keeps me going and gives me the confidence to make all the plays I can."
