UIndy Touts Defense, Bingham Drops 20 at Northwood

MIDLAND, Mich. – The No. 20 UIndy men's basketball team (4-0) won its fourth straight game to open the season on Tuesday evening, earning a 74-56 victory at in-region Northwood.

The Greyhound defense was stout once again, limiting the Timberwolves' attack to 37.3 percent shooting and did not allow a 3-pointer for the first time in at least 24* years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy build a 40-27 halftime lead in large part to its defense. The Greyhounds forced eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes, scoring 13 points off Northwood miscues.

Jesse Bingham drilled four field goals to lead the Hounds with 10 first-half points, scoring eight of the team's 24 points in the paint.

Northwood cut its deficit down to five with 15:17 left in the second half before a Jarvis Walker dunk capped a 9-0 UIndy run almost five minutes later. It was all Greyhounds the rest of the way, with a free throw from Bingham stretching the UIndy lead to a game-high 21.

Kendrick Tchoua played a major role in the Greyhounds pulling away, finishing with 10 points and eight boards.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Usually a threat from 3-point range, UIndy shot just 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from beyond the arc in the win.
- Jakobie Robinson grabbed a game-best nine boards, as the Greyhounds out-rebounded the Timberwolves, 40-30.
- Tchoua joined Robinson with four offensive rebounds.
- Bruno Williams led the bench attack with nine points on 4-of-7 from the field, with Walker right behind with eight.
- Freshman Sean Craig continued his hot start from 3-point land to begin his collegiate career, hitting one first-half triple to extend his streak to four games.
- The Greyhounds finished with 48 points in the paint compared to the Timberwolves' 22, completely dominating the inside battle.

MORE NOTES
UIndy surrendered just one 3-pointer back on December 5, 2015, in an 84-70 win against Lewis … *opponent game-by-game statistics only go back to the 1998-99 … the Greyhounds now lead the all-time series, 10-1 … Bingham finished with 20 points, marking a season-high in the scoring column.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Paul Corsaro: "I'm glad everyone is reaping the benefits of their hard work. But at the end of the day, tomorrow we wake up and it doesn't matter. We got to be ready for Quincy. I need to watch some film and see where we need to get better, but main focus is UIndy."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds open GLVC action on Saturday, visiting Quincy for a 4 p.m. ET tip from Pepsi Arena. Despite UIndy leading the all-time series, 24-14, the Hawks have gotten the best of the Crimson and Grey in two of the past three contests.
