Men's Hoops Dominates Jewell in Conference Home Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (6-1, 2-1 GLVC) cruised by William Jewell (3-6, 1-2 GLVC) on Thursday evening by a score of 72-56, the Greyhounds' first home game in 18 days.

Jesse Bingham topped all scorers with 18 points, while David Ejah added three blocks and two steals to his 13 in the scoring column.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The story was inside the paint, as the Hounds outscored the visiting Cardinals a whopping 38-20 in the category. Outside of 3-pointers and free throws, which accounted for 12 of the team's 36 first-half tallies, UIndy tallied 22 points from the inside. Kendrick Tchoua and Ejah combined for six of those Greyhound buckets, while all five of Bingham's field goals in the opening half were from short range.

After forcing 14 first-half turnovers, the Greyhound defense stayed hungry after the break. Overall, UIndy scored 31 points thanks to Jewell's 22 miscues, including 17 on the fast break. Freshman sharp-shooter Sean Craig drilled a 3-pointer on the break at the 1:33 mark of the second half to stretch the lead to a game-high 21.

As impressive as the UIndy defense performed, the offense may have shone brighter. As a unit, the Hounds shot 52.6 percent (30 for 57) in the win, including a 9-of-16 mark from downtown. Jakobie Robinson joined Ejah with multiple 3-pointers, accounting for all six of his points against the Cardinals.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Williams drew his first start in a Greyhound uniform, finishing with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.
- With 18 points, Bingham has now reached double digits in each of the team's first seven contests.
- Ejah recorded a season-best 13 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
- UIndy has now gone three straight games with 10 or less turnovers.
- In 15 minutes, Jarvis Walker made his presence felt on the defensive end. The sophomore finished with two steals and a block, while also drilling one 3-pointer from the corner.
