INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's basketball team (6-2, 2-2 GLVC) suffered a 71-61 loss on Saturday to Rockhurst (4-4, 2-1 GLVC) from inside Nicoson Hall. The Hawks cut the Greyhounds' six-game winning streak between the teams, now trailing 12-6 in the all-time series.
Jesse Bingham scored a game-high 18 points, while
Jarvis Walker recorded 16 in 21+ minutes off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A free throw from
Kendrick Tchoua inched the Hounds to within four following a slow start on Saturday, putting the hosts in good position before halftime. However, Rockhurst rattled off an 11-4 run in the final three minutes to lead, 45-34, at the break.
The teams traded baskets out of the locker room, with a Bingham 3-pointer cutting the Rockhurst lead to 59-53 with under seven minutes remaining. Like they did all afternoon, the Hawks responded. The visitors quickly grew their lead back to 12 following a pair of jumpers from Timaris Brown, maintaining a steady advantage down the stretch.Â
Bruno Williams drilled his lone 3-pointer of the game with 40 ticks left for another Greyhound six-point deficit, but RU's Nico Felici sunk all four attempts from the charity stripe to put the game out of reach.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Walker's 16 points is a new career-high for the sophomore transfer. He last finished in double figures in the Hounds' season-opening rout of Ohio Dominican.
- After the Hawks shot 63 percent from the field in the opening half, UIndy stepped up defensively and limited the visitors to a miniscule 26.9 percent clip after halftime.Â
- Williams joined
Jakobie Robinson with a pair of steals on Saturday, as each team recorded eight.
- Center
Julian Steinfeld returned after a five-game absence, grabbing one board in six minutes of action.
HOUND BYTES
Assistant coach
Dionte Ferguson...
"We got some great looks, our guys just didn't make shots. Looking at the stat sheet, we had 65 shots with 29 attempts from 3-point and we usually want to be under 40 percent. We took a little bit more than that and should'd been more aggressive driving the ball. We have to get back to the drawing board."
