Eiteljorge Advances to Semis at Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS – Jack Eiteljorge (165) is the lone Greyhound still wrestling in the main bracket for the 43rd Midwest Classic. Alongside Eiteljorge, four Greyhounds will continue wrestling in the consolation bracket on day two. Breyden Bailey (133), Logan Bailey (157), Ray Rioux (141) and Cale Gray (285) are the five that will see the mat.

No. 6-ranked Eiteljorge started the day out as anyone would want to, dominating in the first round en-route to a tech fall against Asa Walton of Newberry. The Indianapolis-native kept rolling in the second round, taking a sudden victory in overtime to send him into the quarterfinals against No. 3-ranked Drew Wiechers of Ashland.

An early escape from Wiechers put him up for majority of the second period, but the aggression of Eiteljorge proved to be his best weapon, snagging a takedown with eight seconds left. A big reversal and takedown would be the nail in the coffin, sending Eiteljorge to the semis.

Coming in at No. 4 in 133, Breyden Bailey made noise quick, pinning his first opponent in just 1:34. He followed that performance up with a sudden victory win over a GLVC-opponent, sending him to the quarterfinals. That is where Bailey's day ended, losing 7-3.

Just like his brother, Logan Bailey (157) started out his day with a pin, his being even faster, dropping his foe in just 22 seconds. His next match was a bit longer, with Bailey landing a 4-1 win by decision. His final match of the first day of the Midwest Open saw him get pinned late in the second period.

Ray Rioux started his day off strong picking up a pin in 1:41 in his first match of the day. His next match was grueling, falling 3-0 to send him to the consolation bracket. He would pick up a fall once again in his first match there, this time in 1:50. His final match of the day was yet another grinder, but he was on the winning side, pulling out a 1-0 victory.

Cale Gray, coming in at No. 9 for heavyweight, started out hot, winning his first match 3-0. He suffered a pin late in his second match sending him to the consolation rounds. He kept his head up however, cruising to two more wins, keeping him wrestling on day 2.

Wrestling will kick off again tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in Nicoson Hall.
