Hounds Take Down Ferris State In Overtime

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The UIndy women's basketball overcame a deficit of 10 points heading into the final quarter of play on Saturday afternoon to take down Ferris State in overtime by a final of 65-62. The Hounds improve to 7-6 overall on the year while the Bulldogs, who were receiving votes in the most recent WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, drop to 9-3.

Sadie Hill returned to the court after missing the last two games and corralled her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Most notably, Hill made her presence known at the charity stripe after she made 13 freebies for UIndy. Close behind, Lauren With notched 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field while Liv Becker added 15 points and a trio of 3-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were hit with a sluggish opening half of play at the Jim Wink Arena. Through the first 20 minutes of play, UIndy shot just 5-of-24 from the field (20.8 percent) while Ferris State was at 5-of-30 (16.7 percent) in return. Most notably, the trio of Caroline Jakaitis, With, and Hill were the only Greyhounds to have points on the board midway through the second quarter as UIndy held a 13-11 lead over the hometown Bulldogs. Both teams battled to a 20-20 stalemate heading into the intermission.

With the game knotted up at 27-27 in the third, Ferris State rattled off a 7-0 scoring run that put the team in the driver's seat for the time being. This played a key part in the Bulldogs outscoring the Hounds by 10 in the quarter and eventually holding a double-digit lead going into the fourth. However, it was UIndy who answered the call and produced a huge 8-0 scoring run midway through the fourth which helped in eventually forcing overtime. The Hounds successfully outscored FSU by 10 in the final quarter of regulation.

The Greyhounds finally took over the game in overtime by never trailing in the five minutes of extra time. Big free throws by Hill and Ilani Williams-Harris with just seconds remaining alongside a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer by Ferris State helped the Hounds collect the non-conference road win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy finished shooting at 33.3 percent from the field (18-of-54) while Ferris State ended at 27.8 percent (20-of-72).
