INDIANAPOLIS – In their third game in five days, the University of Indianapolis men's basketball team came up short on the road against McKendree, falling 78-71 to split the season series with the Bearcats.
Center Julian Steinfeld posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Steinfeld also led all players with three blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy found themselves trailing by 13 with 6:00 remaining in the first half before a 13-4 run pulled them within four. Jesse Bingham and Kendrick Tchoua both scored five in the run while the Bearcats shot one-for-eight in the five-minute span.
The Bearcats held their lead steady throughout the second half. The Hounds trailed by nine at the 6:39 mark before a quick 10-0 put them ahead by one. Jakobie Robinson put back a three while Steinfeld capped off the run with a driving lay up. UIndy led by one with 2:31 left on the clock but the Bearcats responded with back-to-back threes to go ahead once again. McKendree scored their final eight points from the charity stripe to hand UIndy their second loss of the long road trip.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kendrick Tchoua and Cory Miller Jr. both scored 15 points on the night. Miller Jr. inched closer to the record books, now sitting at 999 career points. He looks to become the 43rd Greyhound to eclipse 1,000 career points.
- The Hounds won the battle in the paint, outscoring the Bearcats 42-20.
- UIndy shot 45.0% on the floor to McKendree's 43.6%.
UP NEXT
The Hounds return home this week for their final homestand of the regular season. UIndy will face Missouri S&T on Thursday followed by Drury on Saturday.
