Back-To-Back Shutouts Highlight Day 1 at Music City Invite

SMYRNA, Tenn.— The 10th-ranked UIndy softball team kicked off the Music City Invitational with a pair of impressive region wins Friday. The Greyhounds' pitching and defense held both Ferris State and Kentucky Wesleyan scoreless in respective wins of 8-0 and 7-0.

GAME 1 | UIndy 8, FSU 0 (5 innings)
Sophomore Kenzee Smith notched her first complete-game shutout of the season, holding the Bulldogs to just one hit. She shook off a single and a walk in the first and cruised through the final four frames to move to 2-1 on the season.

The UIndy bats came alive in the second inning, generating five runs on four hits and a walk, all with zero outs. Senior Gianni Iannantone got things started with a leadoff single, while Haylie Foster, Smith and Megan Nichols followed with RBIs. Both Foster and Hanna Burris added stolen bases to help fuel the rally.

The Hounds tacked on two runs in the third – both on wild pitches – and another in the fourth on an Emily O'Connor triple.

GAME 2 | UIndy 7, KWC 0
Facing a team they blanked just six day ago, the Hounds delivered a second straight shutout of the Panthers. Haylie Foster moved to the circle and allowed just one hit and fanned eight in six scoreless innings. Freshman Jayden Casebolt came on in the seventh, pitching around a single and walk to retire the Panthers and keep the shutout intact.

Offensively, the Hounds did their damage in the first (2 runs), third (2) and sixth (3) innings. Maddy Stout earned RBIs on a double and a walk, both H. Foster and Iannantone had sac flies, while O'Connor added an RBI single.
