INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Indianapolis women's lacrosse team conquered the McKendree Bearcats in its first game of the season and the kickoff of the 2022 Midwest Mini Tournament. The No. 2 ranked Hounds took Bearcats 19-3 on Friday afternoon in Key Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A quick three back-to-back goals by
Quinn Malcolm,
Jess Soenen in the first quarter within the 11-to-9-minute mark. The Greyhounds then went on a 10-0 scoring run, including
Kylee Manser who scored her first goal of her Greyhound career at the eight-minute mark.
Manser went on to score three more goals on the Bearcats, earning a hat trick in her first career collegiate game.
"From the moment we recruited them we knew they would be future superstars," added Head Coach
James Delaney when speaking on the team new additions. "We're very excited to see younger players step up."
McKendree scored its first goal early in the second quarter, only to be answered by two more Hounds goals, followed by yet another McKendree goal. The Hounds ended the first half up 12-2.
The Greyhounds kicked it into high gear in the fourth quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to end the game by shutting down the Bearcats 19-3.
Abigail Lagos continued to show why she was is the best of the best with five goals off of 11 shots. While
Sarah Klein earned four points off of a hat trick and an assist.
Audrey Moran started in goal for the Greyhounds and made two saves in taking the win, while
Cassidy King wrapped up the game in making three saves.
Clara Johnson took the loss for the Bearcats in making eight saves.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy took 45 shots to McKendree's eight.
-The Greyhounds forced 17 turnovers and recovered 15 ground balls.
-UIndy had a mere nine turnovers.
