ST. CHARLES, Mo.- Seven from #10 UIndy Wrestling will wrestle at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships March 11-12, after placing in the top three at their respective weights at the Super Region 4 Tournament Saturday.
The seven National Qualifiers is the most since 2014 for the Greyhounds, who finished second as a team with 129.5 total points.
Jack Eiteljorge (165) and #4
Andrew Sams (174) highlighted the UIndy qualifiers by taking Super Regional titles at their respective weights.
Eiteljorge earned his second career regional title behind a trio of upsets on the day. The Greyhound 165 opened his tournament with a 12-5 win over #10 Will Kuster of Drury in the quarterfinals, and earned a spot in the bracket final and his second career trip to Nationals with a 3-1 win over #3 Cory Peterson of McKendree. Eiteljorge then took the title with a 6-3 win over #6 Nate Trepanier of Lindenwood.Â
Sams started his day with a 15-0 tech fall of Will Martin of Ouachita Baptist, and earned his trip to Nationals and the 174 championship with a  7-3 win over Maryville's Bret Heil. Sams then provided the most drama of the day with a 2-1 win over #12 Josh Jones of McKendree in TB-1.
In addition to the pair of Greyhound champs, three Hounds finished second in their brackets on the day. No. 12
Logan Bailey earned his second trip in as many years to Nationals at 149 with a 2-1 day, including a semifinal win over #10 Darick Lapaglia of Central Missouri, 7-1. Bailey fell to #1 Brik Filippo of UCO in the final, 5-4.
At 197, #4
Derek Blubaugh went 3-1 with a pair of major decisions and a pin. UIndy's 197 took a 12-0 major over Ryan Golnick of Lindenwood in round one, and then pinned William Jewell's Ian Lawson in 1:56 in the quarters. He punched his ticket to his first Nationals with a semifinal win via major decision 14-1 over Vinnie Scaletta of McKendree Blubaugh fell to #1 Dalton Abney in the championship match, 6-0.
Heavyweight
Cale Gray also earned his first trip to Nationals with a runner-up finish. Gray went 2-1 with a pair of major decisions in the quarters and semifinals, before falling to Central Oklahoma's Shawn Streck in the bracket final.
The final two Greyhound qualifiers came via third-place finishes, with both
Breyden Bailey and
Dawson Combest earning their spots in the NCAA field. Bailey, who will head to Nationals for the first time in his career, went 3-1 on the day with a 7-0 win over Ryan Ripplinger of McKendree to punch his Nationals ticket. Combest, who will make his third trip to the NCAA meet, also went 3-1 on the day. The Greyhound 157 earned his Nationals trip with a 13-2 major decision over Jace Fisher of Newman in the third place match.Â
Gleason Mappes missed his third NCAA trip by a match, finishing fourth at 184, while
Ray Rioux closed out his season with a fifth place finish at 141. Central Oklahoma won the team race, qualifying eight and amassing 153.0 total team points.Â
The seven Greyhounds will head to Chaifetz Arena on the campus of Saint Louis University March 11-12 for the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships. Â
