#4 Softball Caps Spring Break Trip with Two Dubs

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—The UIndy softball team wrapped up its stay in the Sunshine State with two Thursday wins, downing Caldwell University, 3-2, before blanking in-region Wayne State, 5-0. The Greyhounds finished THE Spring Games with a 5-1 record.

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, Caldwell 2
Trailing 2-1 through three-and-a-half innings, the Greyhounds managed the go-ahead rally in the bottom of the fourth. Reigning GLVC Player of the Year Gianni Iannantone sparked the surge with a leadoff walk and later scored the tying run on a Sydnie Foster single. Early-season standout Dominique Proctor delivered the game-winning RBI in the very next at bat, plating Foster with a base hit.

Haylie Foster got the starting nod in the circle, picking up win No. 10 with a complete-game effort. A two-run single in the third proved her only blemish. She allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Lexy Rees finished 3-for-3 in the game, including an RBI double in the first.

GAME 2 | UIndy 5, Wayne St. 0
Proctor continued her hot hitting in the Florida finale, driving the game's first pitch over the left-center fence. That was all Kenzee Smith (10-1) needed, as the Hounds' pitching ace went on to spin a two-hit shutout. She fanned nine Warriors on walked only one.

The Hounds added two runs in both the third and fourth innings. Megan Nichols had a run-scoring double, while Rees and S. Foster each added RBI singles.

UIndy racked up five doubles in all with eight batters notching at least one hit. Haylie and Sydnie shared the team lead with two knocks apiece.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds finally settle in to GLVC play, starting with the delayed-but-imminent home opener versus Lewis University on Monday, March 21. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. ET.
