ST. CHARLES, MO – The No. 4 UIndy men's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to No. 12 Lindenwood 8-7 in overtime. The Hounds move to 7-1 on the year and 0-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three goals of the game belonged to the Hounds as Jake Zickel, Patrick O'Hara and Wyatt Auyer all found the net. UIndy's 3-0 lead was erased with a 3-0 run from the Lions, who held the Hounds scoreless for nearly 20 minutes of play. Kyle Basch lit the lamp with an unassisted goal to give the Hounds a 4-3 lead at the break.
A pair of goals from Ben Foster and Parker Johnson less than 10 seconds apart gave UIndy a 6-3 lead midway through the third quarter. The lead slipped away once again, this time with a 4-0 run from Lindenwood. The Lions went ahead by one with 2:14 remaining until Drew Billig evened the game with 22 seconds remaining to send it to overtime.
The Lions prevailed in overtime, scoring on their first possession after winning the opening face off.
Saturday marked UIndy's first overtime since May 11, 2019. The Hounds are 4-2 all-time in overtime.
