INDIANAPOLIS—The No. 5-ranked UIndy softball team split a doubleheader at Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds dropped game one, 2-1, before running away with a 9-1 win in the capper. Junior catcher
Lexy Rees homered in both contests.

GAME 1 | UIS 2, UIndy 1
The Prairie Strars managed two unearned runs in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference. With two outs and the bases empty, an error and a walk set the table for second baseman Danielle Dennis, who drove a double to left field to plate a pair and put the home team up for good.
Â
All-American pitcher
Kenzee Smith (11-2) was tagged with just her second loss of the year. She went the distance, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four.
Â
The Hounds' lone run came in the top of the fourth on a solo shot from catcher
Lexy Rees.
Dominique Proctor,
Hanna Burris and
Sydnie Foster each added a single to account for the balance of UIndy's four total hits.

GAME 2 | UIndy 9, UIS 1
Dennis struck again early in game two, as her first-inning sac fly gave the Stars an early lead. But UIndy fired back for a four-spot in the top of the second to surge ahead. Bases-loaded at bats from
Maddy Stout (single) and
Emily O'Connor (walk) resulted in RBIs, while
Sydnee Perry and Stout scored on an error and a wild pitch, respectively.
Â
UIndy didn't look back from that point, tacking on two more runs in both the third and fifth innings. Rees punctuated the action with a two-run bomb, while Stout finished the game with four base hits and three runs scored.
Jocelyn Calvin went 3-for-3 with a walk in her first collegiate start, and
Kamrie Foster notched two hits and two runs.
Â
Starting pitcher
Haylie Foster moved to 12-1 with the complete-game win, surrendering just one run on four hits.
