INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team never faltered on Friday night, taking down the third-seed Truman State University for the second straight year in the GLVC quarterfinals. The Hounds posted a 94-90 victory, advancing to the GLVC semifinals for the third consecutive season.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOKS
The Hounds made a statement in their own record books, setting GLVC tournament single game records in points (94), three-pointers made (14), three point percentage (.560), assists (21) and blocks (6).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half saw five lead changes as neither team built a double digit lead. In the final 40 seconds, Jakobie Robinson and Cory Miller Jr. combined to go five-for-five at the charity stripe. Trailing by one Miller Jr. was fouled on a potential buzzer beating three, and went on to sink all three free throws to give the Hounds two-point lead at the break.
UIndy opened the second half with five quick points with Robinson knocking back one of his five three's of the night. Less than two minutes later Robinson hit another three to give the Hounds their first double digit lead at the 17:07 mark. The Hounds held a steady lead throughout the second half, leading by as much as 16 midway through the half.
Truman threatened late, cutting the deficit to six with 1:37 remaining. With 20 seconds left the Bulldogs hit a jumper in the paint to make it a three-point game. The Hounds held on for the win, going eight-for-eight from the charity stripe in the final 90 seconds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Â Five Hounds scored in double figures in Cory Miller Jr. (23), Jakobie Robinson (22), Josiah Tynes (14), Julian Steinfeld (12) and Dee Montgomery (12).
- Robinson paced the Hounds with nine rebounds while shooting five-of-seven from beyond the arc.
- Jesse Bingham and Steinfeld both recorded a pair of blocks while this was the fifth game this season the Hounds did not give up a block.
- UIndy won the battle in the paint, outscoring Truman 44-26 while the Hounds bench outscored the Bulldgos 26-9.
UP NEXT
UIndy will make their third straight GLVC semifinal appearance on Saturday. The six-seeded Hounds face the second-seeded Lewis Flyers at 9:30 pm ET in Edwardsville, IL. The other semifinal features the eight-seed William Jewell versus four-seed Missouri-St. Louis at 7 pm ET.
