INDIANAPOLIS—The fifth-ranked UIndy softball team authored a doubleheader sweep of visiting Missouri-St. Louis Saturday, topping the Tritons 3-2 and 4-0. The day was highlighted by a no-hit performance by game-two starter
Haylie Foster. "Hay" struck out three and faced just two over the minimum, as a walk and an error accounted for the Tritons' only base runners.
GAME 1 | UIndy 3, UMSL 2
Emily O'Connor got things going with a two-out double in the first, bringing in
Lexy Rees all the way from first base to give the Hounds the early lead.
The Tritons, who entered the day riding seven-game winning streak, scratched out a single run in both the third (earned) and fourth (unearned) to move ahead. But in the bottom of the fifth, sophomore slugger
Dominique Proctor retook the lead with one swing, clearing the fences with a two-run blast for what provided to be the game-winning hit.
Sophomore ace
Kenzee Smith went the distance in the circle, allowing just four hits, one walks and one earned run to move to 19-3 on the season.
GAME 2 | UIndy 4, UMSL 0
Haylie Foster (18-2) was unhittable in the capper. Though the Tritons made contact 18 times, Foster and her defense converted that contact into 12 groundouts and six flyouts. UMSL was retired in order in five of the seven frames.
Meanwhile, UIndy once again produced some early offense. With two down in the bottom of the first, Gianni Iannatone singled up the middle to score
Megan Nichols and O'Connor and put the Hounds up, 2-0.
A pair of sacrifices flies accounted for the balance of the runs, as Rees and
Sydnee Perry both brought in runners with fly balls to center field.
