Tennis Sweeps USI to Send Off Seniors

WHITELAND, Ind – Under the bright and hot Indiana sun, UIndy men's tennis put on a masterclass of tennis to send their group of three seniors off into the sunset. The trio that were celebrated were Zac Faveri, Yoann Viel and Yannick Zeitvogel. The team sent them off in the best way they could, squashing Southern Indiana 7-0 in the final regular season match of the year.

Edgar Destouet and Viel were the ones to get cooking first in doubles with a 6-4 win. They were followed right after by Jason Gerweck and Pedro Franca who secured the doubles point out of the no. 3 slot with a 6-3 "W." To sweep doubles was Nikolaj Talimaa and the aforementioned Faveri who, in a quality match, won 6-4.

Talimaa may have been apart of the doubles pair to finish last, but he got business done quickly in singles, sprinting to a 6-4, 6-2 win. Viel out of the no. 2 spot opened very wll with a 6-3 set one, he followed with a 6-4 second set to tally another victory for the Greyhounds.

Faveri on his senior day pulled all the stops out set one fighting a tooth and nail set one to a 7-5 conclusion in the Greyhounds favor. But it was a "Zac show" set two as he took it 6-3. The highly ranked freshman, Destouet hit the court in the no. 1 singles slot, walking away victorious in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

To close out the evening was Gerweck and Franca. Gerweck opened strong in set one, marching to a 6-3 win. His Screaming Eagel adversary fought hard in set two, but the Kalsruhe, Germany native was having none of it, winning 7-6. To ice the match and the complete 7-0 sweep was Franca who kept it smooth, winning in identical 6-3, 6-3 sets.
