#10 Tennis Dominates on Senior Day

WHITELAND, Ind – Just 20 minutes south of the University of Indianapolis campus, at the campus of Whiteland High School, the UIndy women's tennis team sent off a group of seniors with a dominating win against instate rival Southern Indiana. It was a trio of seniors for the women's side of the team in Maria Solnyshkina, Anna Novikova and Kristina Lagoda, all of which have been vital parts of the programs rise to success.

Action kicked off in doubles, and even with the heat beating down on them, the Hounds didn't break a sweat. Isabella Dunlap and Sofia Sharonova struck first with a 6-2 win over their screaming eagle adversaries. To secure the doubles point was the senior pair of Novikova and Solnyshkina in the No. 1 singles slot. They mimicked Dunlap and Sharonova with a 6-2 win of their own. To sweet doubles was Lagoda and the energetic Lea Cakarevic who wrapped it up with a 6-4 win.

Singles had all the momentum in the world behind the Greyhounds, as they kept every match to within two sets. Fittingly, a senior was first to strike with Solynshkina winning 6-0, 6-2. Lagoda kept the screaming eagles quiet with a straight sets dominating win 6-0, 6-0 to follow. Maissane Aik, out of the No. 3 slot, was just one game off from a perfect match, winning 6-0, 6-1.

For no. 2 singles, Novikova proved why she is a top player in the country winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Dunlap did more of the same, winning 6-1, 6-2. To end the day and to send the Hounds back to UIndy was Cakarevic, she closed set one with efficiency 6-2, before holding off a late set push in set two to secure victory 6-5.
