ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team defeated the Southwest Baptist Bearcats 4-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo.
The Hounds swept doubles with electric wins by all three duos. Kicked off by a fire starting 6-3 win by
Edgar Destouet and
Yoann Viel, while it was
Nikolaj Talimaa and
Zac Faveri who clinched the first point for the Hounds. The Hounds pairs use chemistry and a unmistakable team gel to launch themselves far above their competition. With howls and coo's from the courts, the energy the Greyhounds double's provided would make any opponent shake.
In singles, Viel was the first to take a win. After a 6-4 first set, the sophomore would allow just one more point in the match to secure the next of the Hounds four points. After
Pedro Franca fell in a close six position set, it was Talimaa who would be the next to put the Greyhounds over the Bearcats. After a close 7-6 first set, Talimaa refused to let SBU's David Szeri move another inch, taking the win in a 6-0 second set.
Closing the win was GLVC Freshman of the Year
Edgar Destouet, who took the first set win 7-6 and was fueled by cheers from his teammates watching, clinched the point in a 6-1 win.
V. ROCKHURST
The team took the first win of the Great Lakes Valley Championship Tournament over the Rockhurst Hawks on Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. on Maryville University's campus.
In doubles,
Jason Gerweck and
Pedro Franca were the first to finish in doubles with a 6-1 win over Agustin Cortes and Brain King.
Edgar Destouet and
Yoann Viel were the next to take the win's in the No. 2 spot with a 6-3 win to take the first point for the Hounds.
Nikolaj Talimaa and
Zac Faveri's match went unfinished.
On the singles side,
Zac Faveri took the first win in a pair of 6-2 sets. While All-GLVC First Team honoree's Talimaa and Destouet were the next two to finish their matches, while Talimaa taking a two 6-3 sets and Destouet taking a 6-2 and 7-6 match.
