INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5 UIndy men's lacrosse team fell short in the Great Lakes Valley Conference title game on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 8 Lindenwood 13-10 at Key Stadium. The Lions remain the only team to have beaten UIndy this year as the Hounds move to 14-2.
CLUB 100
Parker Johnson netted his 100th goal of his career in the fourth quarter. The British Columbia native joins Parker Kump (166) as the only Greyhounds in program history to eclipse 100 goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions scored the first goal of the game before UIndy finished the first quarter on a 3-0 run. Wyatt Auyer netted two while James Whiteford scored another. Drew Billig picked up an assist on two of the goals.
The second quarter belonged to the Lions as they outscored UIndy 6-1 in the frame including three goals in a 49 second span. Billig connected with Whiteford with just over two minutes remaining before the Lions found the net in the final minute to take a 7-4 lead to the break.
Both defenses shined to open the second half as neither team scored for the first seven minutes. The Lions ended the drought with a goal of their own before Jake Zickel and Owain Braddock scored just over a minute apart, putting the Hounds down two with just over 20 minutes remaining.
Back-to-back goals from the Lions put them ahead by four with 13:42 remaining. Momentum wasn't in UIndy's favor as Auyer connected with Johnson to cut the deficit to three, but the Lions responded right away with a goal of their own.
The Hounds didn't back down as Johnson and Billig each scored in the final two minutes but the comeback bid fell short, snapping UIndy's 29 game win streak at Key Stadium.
