Hounds Drop Regular Season Finale at #5 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C.  – The No. 7 UIndy men's lacrosse team took on No. 5 Limestone in their regular season finale on Friday, falling 14-8 in South Region action.

The Hounds finish the regular season at 13-2, marking the most regular season wins in program history, besting the 12 wins in the 2019 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It started as a high-scoring affair with both teams netting a goal in the first three minutes.  Matt Schoeneck and Drew Billig each scored an unassisted goal for the Hounds.  The next two goals belonged to the Saints before James Whiteford netted one in the closing minute of the first quarter to cut the deficit to one.

The second quarter was a different story as only two goals were scored.  Limestone found the net less than 12 seconds in.  With just over two minutes remaining, lightning in the area sent the teams to their locker rooms for a nearly 45 minute weather delay.  After the delay, Billig connected with James Whiteford to put the Hounds down 5-4 at the half.

Limestone utilized a 6-1 run in the second half to jump out to an 11-5 lead.  UIndy's lone goal of the third belonged to Ben Foster on an extra man opportunity.

Jake Zickel opened the fourth with an unassisted goal to pull the Hounds within five with just under 12 minutes remaining.  Owain Braddock and Wyatt Auyer each found the back of the net to cut the deficit to four with just under five minutes left but the Saints scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes to steal the 14-8 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Billig paced the Hounds with five points off of one goal and four assists.  The senior has racked up 72 points this season to bring his career total to 181.
- Josh Jackson led the defense with six caused turnovers and six ground balls.
- Austin Barnett made 12 saves in the full 60 minutes in net.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will have to wait a little longer to see if they earned a spot in this year's NCAA Tournament.  The selection show will air on Sunday night at 7:30 pm ET on NCAA.com.
