Men's Lax Edged by Bears in NCAA First Round

HICKORY, NC – The No. 8 University of Indianapolis men's lacrosse team saw their 2022 season come to an end on Wednesday, suffering an 11-10 loss at No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.  Parker Johnson and Owain Braddock each netted a hat trick in UIndy's third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.

The Hounds finish the season with a mark of 14-4 and were never ranked outside the Top 10.  The 13 regular season wins is the most in program history while the Hounds held a program-record 28 game win streak at Key Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bren Jamieson got the scoring started for the Hounds, netting one less than one minute in.  The Bears responded less than a minute later and went on a 4-0 run to take the 4-1 lead.  Wyatt Auyer found the back on the net with 10 seconds remaining to make it a 4-1 score after the first.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored less than 30 seconds into the second before a defensive showdown kept the game scoreless for over 11 minutes.  James Whiteford scored unassisted with 3:47 remaining for the final goal of the first half to make it a 5-3 game at the break.

A high-scoring affair broke out in the third with nine goals between the two teams.  Parker Johnson netted a pair of unassisted goals in the third.  Trailing by four, Braddock and Auyer scored less than a minute apart to cut the deficit to two.  Easton Ong forced a defensive turnover and raced downfield to find Auyer in front of the net.

UIndy trailed by three entering the final frame and fought back to tie it at 10.  Braddock sparked a 3-0 run with an unassisted goal at 11:46.  Less than a minute later, Kyle Basch intercepted a Bears pass at midfield and connected with Johnson to cut the deficit to one.  Braddock netted the equalizer with 4:19 remaining.  Lenoir-Rhyne scored their lone goal of the quarter with 46 seconds remaining.  A Bears turnover gave the Hounds the final possession with 37 seconds remaining but they were unable to find the net.
