GREENWOOD, Ind. – Nikolaj Talimaa's teammates hoisted him into the air, the Hounds hollered and coo'ed like a pack of dogs as if acting as their mascot. Talimaa, who has played primarily in the No. 2 spot for the Greyhounds, had just secured the Hounds vengeance over the McKendree Bearcats, who most recently swiped the Great Lakes Valley Conference title form the Hounds, and punched the Greyhounds ticket to the Sweet 16 on Tuesday morning in Greenwood, Ind. At Center Grove High School.
The Hounds defeated the Bearcats 4-0 in the Midwest Region Finals.
After securing an early lead in doubles with
Edgar Destouet and
Yoann Viel taking the first win, with a 6-4 victory. Followed by Talimaa and
Zac Faveri who, in the No. 1 spot, also won 6-4.
Jason Gerweck and Pedro Fanca's doubles set went unfinished.
It was, yet again,
Yoann Viel to take the first win for the Hounds – the No. 3 position player consistently has secured points for UIndy across the season. Viel took a swift win in two 6-2 sets. It was then
Pedro Franca, who would be the next to take a win for the Hounds with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
