ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. –
Isabella Dunlap turned to the line of Hounds spectating on the court next to hers, "Is that clinch?" She asked. The Hounds answered by hoisting her over their shoulder and into the air in celebration. She had clinched the win for the Greyhounds.
The University of Indianapolis women's tennis team took down the No. 6 ranked nationally, Columbus State, in the NCAA Division II Round of eight on Wednesday night, 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Head Coach,
Malik Tabet, knew from the beginning of doubles it would be one of the best matchup's the Hounds had come across thus far this season. With points going back-and-forth between the three sets of pairs, every point was crucial.
It was
Arina Amaning and
Maissane Aik who would take the first set of doubles, with a 7-5 win. The No. 1 position
Anna Novikova and
Maria Solnyshkina would secure the doubles point with a 6-4 win of their own.
After a brief break in play due to a weather delay after the first sets of singles – the Hounds were back and hungry to take their win.
With Senior
Kristina Lagoda only allowing two points across both sets, in taking a pair of 6-1 wins, she would be the next to take a point for the Hounds.
Lea Cakarevic would follow that up on her own with a third set shutout victory (3-6, 6-2, 6-0), and finally it fell to Dunlap who would win in three with a 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 win.
