Baseball Honors 2022 Seniors At Greyhound Park Sunday Afternoon

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team honored eight seniors today at Greyhound Park in a pair of losses against conference-foe Southern Indiana. With this being the conclusion of the regular season, the Hounds now sit at 20-29 overall with an 11-13 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

The Greyhounds said farewell to seniors Nathan Fish, Justyn Eichbaum, Alex Vela, Hunter Hughes, Chaney Morgan, Johnny Irish, Bo Minor, and Mike MacDougall.
 
GAME 1 | USI 9, UIndy 7 (7 innings)
The Screaming Eagles found the scoreboard first after crossing four runs in the second inning. UIndy joined the scoring in the bottom half of the third when Vela hit an RBI double down the left field line that scored Brandon DeWitt all the way from first.
 
USI added another run in the fourth to extend its small lead but UIndy answered in the bottom half with a Fish RBI single up the middle which was followed up by a Caleb Vaughn two-run homer and DeWitt RBI single to tie the game.
 
Southern Indiana garnered three runs combined between the fifth and sixth innings to gain the upper hand back. Despite an RBI single in the bottom half of the sixth by DeWitt and a solo dinger by Minor in the seventh, USI held on to win another over UIndy.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-USI managed a game-high 14 hits while UIndy had 10.
-DeWitt led the Hounds with three hits at the dish while Minor had two.
-Each team accumulated one error in the field.
-Five pitchers tossed on the mound for UIndy.
 
GAME 2 | USI 11, UIndy 8
USI grabbed an early advantage in the opening frame by crossing home three runs. However, UIndy answered the call and scored three in the bottom half to tie things up.
 
The Screaming Eagles brought home a total of seven runs through the second, third, and fourth innings, but UIndy held strong and tallied three total through the fourth and fifth innings to keep the game within arm's reach. USI would cap off the win with a lone run in the seventh to lock up the series sweep despite UIndy scoring two in the ninth.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy led the game with 11 hits at the dish while USI had seven.
-In total, five errors occurred between both teams.
-The Hounds walked a total of 14 batters on defense, the most by the team this season.
-Drew Donaldson notched four hits with two RBIs and a run scored.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will now wait to see who they will play against in the upcoming GLVC tournament next week.
