INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 7-ranked University of Indianapolis wrestling team will kick off it's season this Saturday at the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open hosted by fellow GLVC-school Maryville. Coming off a
GLVC-title in the 2022-23 season, the Hounds have been tabbed to repeat as conference
champs and currently sit as one of three GLVC schools to be within the top ten of the
NWCA Preseason Poll, with McKendree and Upper Iowa both being tied for fifth.
Of the Hounds seven national qualifiers last season, they return four to this year's lineup with the headliners being the recently crowned top heavyweight
Cale Gray, and the two-time national runner-up
Derek Blubaugh.
Owen Butler and
Ray Rioux round out the national qualifiers returning, while the Hounds also get
Dawson Combest back, an All-American in the 2021-22 year.
