Double-Double Trio Propels Hounds to Dominate Victory Over UPJ

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team capped off 2023 with an authoritative victory over the University of Pitt-Johnstown in the two squad's first meeting. The Hounds captured their fifth straight victory with another 90-point offensive performance, cruising to a 92-67 win behind stellar play in the paint.

Kendrick Tchoua, David Ejah and Jesse Bingham were brilliant on both sides of the ball, with all three players notching double-doubles in the win. Bingham led the Hounds in scoring with 20, earning his first 20-point double-double of his career, alongside his first double digit rebound game of the season and his first since the 2020-21 season. Ejah's double-double marks the first of this Greyhounds tenure, with his 17 points also becoming his new career high while donning the Crimson and Grey.

The Hounds set a new single-game high for the season in rebounding, tallying 54 in the contest, with their 26 offensive boards out totaling UPJ's entire rebounding effort. It marks the highest single-game rebounding effort by a Greyhounds squad since their 55 rebound mark set on Feb. 10, 2000 versus Quincy.

INS & OUTS
After fighting off the Mountain Cats late first-half assault, the Hounds held to a two-point advantage heading into the break.  UIndy came out with a new fire in the second, lighting up nine straight to grab their first double-digit lead of the game. The Cats responded with a layup to bring it within nine, marking the final time the Greyhounds lead would be within 10.

A Jarvis Walker in-your-face three ball, a steal by Tchoua and a Paul Zilinskas smooth layup accelerated the lead to 20, forcing a UPJ timeout to calm the storm that was the Hounds.

The trio of Tchoua, Ejah and Bingham kept their foot on the gas in the final twelve, with them combining for 19 of the Hounds 32 points within that time frame. In the end, the Hounds out rebounded the Mountain Cats 30-12 in the second half of play, shooting 46 percent from the floor with 29 second chance points.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Bingham's 20-point night marks his second straight with 20, falling two short of his season-best total he recorded versus Lewis.
- Walker was lethal offensively, scoring 13 on 4-9 shooting.
- Julian Steinfeld, despite recording just four points, was monumental in the rebounding game, tallying eight boards off the bench.
- Tchoua and Zac Szul led the Hounds in steals with three each.
- The Greyhounds have no held their opponents to 64 or less seven times this season.

UP NEXT
At the midpoint of the season and the fall semester over, the Hounds will have a short hiatus from action for the Holidays, returning to the hardwood on Jan. 3 in Kirksville, Mo. against the Truman State Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

Last season against the Bulldogs the Hounds went 2-0 with their trip to Kirksville, Mo. resulting in a 80-57 victory where Tchoua led the team in scoring.
