GRANVILLE, Ohio—The UIndy swimming & diving teams authored a successful mid-season meet this week, competing at both the Dension (swimmers) and Miami (divers) Invitationals. Three program records and a number of pool records fell at Denison, as the UIndy men scored 1,941 points to win the team title, while the women's 1,508 was second only the host Big Red.
Â
SATURDAY
The Greyhounds capped the week by posting the fastest times in school history in both the women's 200 breaststroke and the men's 200 backstroke.
Celina Schmidt shaved more than two seconds off the previous 200 breast mark, touching the wall with a winning time of 2:11.07. The mark automatically qualified Schmidt for Nationals and is currently the fastest in all of Division II.
Â
Â
Buessing, meanwhile, notched his second school record of the week (more below) with a 1:43.37 in the 200 back. The time resets the 2018 mark by UIndy-great Rodrigo Codo Berti.
Â
Both Schmidt and Buessing's times set pool records as well.
Â
The younger Buessing, Silas, took third in the 200 back, improving his B time with a 1:46.02 to etch his name at No. 5 in the UIndy annals.
UIndy also went 1-3 in the women's 200 back.
Mia Krstevska upped her B-cut status with a first-place 1:58.06, while
Isabella Revstedt hit the B standard with a third-place 2:01.08.
Â
Another pool record fell in the final race of the week. The Greyhound men's 400 free relay team of
Bartosz Mielniczuk,
Aqeel Joseph,
Oskar Sawicki and
Joao Silva conspired for a time of 2:56.02 to win the event and hit the NCAA provisional mark.
Â
UIndy's men's 100 free swimmers were nothing short of dominant. Seven of the nine qualifiers for the finals were Greyhounds, including each of the top six finishers. Each of the top six hit or improved B-cut times, with Mielniczuk's 44:21 edging Joseph and his 44:41.
Â
Two more Hounds earned event wins Saturday, with
Andrea Gomez and
Elias Noe sweeping the 200 fly. Noe's time of 1:46.90 was the fifth-fastest in school history.
Â
FRIDAY
Celina Schmidt continued her sensational sophomore season. The Berlin, Germany native dominated the 100 breaststroke race, with her time of 1:00.94 good for the year's first A-cut in the event in Division II. It is also just .62 seconds slower than the school record.
Â
Schmidt also contributed to the Greyhounds' second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. She was joined by
Isabella Revstedt, Stefanie Markwadt and
Savannah Mueller, as the group combined for an NCAA provisional time of 1:42.33.
Â
Individually, Markwardt won the 100 fly (55.05) and Revstedt touched first in the 100 back (54.65), as both improved upon B-cut times.
Â
Meanwhile,
Andrea Gomez and
Karolina Dubcakova finished second and eighth, respectively, in the 400 IM.
Â
On the men's side, two UIndy 200 MR teams started the night with NCAA provisionals. The quartet of
Jeron Thompson,
Brayden Cole,
Oskar Sawicki and
Joao Silva took first place (1:25.60); while
Mattia Rossi,
Sebestyen Bohm,
Aqeel Joseph and
Diego Mas finished third (1:28.91).
Â
The Buessing brothers went 1-2 in the 400 IM, posting two of the fastest times in school history. Already the owner of an automatic qualifying time, Cedric went even faster at Denison, with his 3:45.67 just .16 off his school record time he set at Nationals last year. Silas took second with a 3:53.65, earned the No. 4 spot in the UIndy top 10.
Â
Â
The 100 fly saw four Greyhounds notch B times. Sawicki won the race with a 47.48, followed by
Elias Noe in second and Silva in fourth. Thompson won the B final with a time of 48.53.
Â
Two more B-cuts came in the 100 breast, with
Sebestyen Bohm breaking through with a fifth-place time of 54.52 and
Brayden Cole improving his B time with a third-place 53.85.
The final race of the night saw the Hounds place second in the 800 free relay, with the Buessing boys,
Nick Quintero and Noe combining for a 6:37.11.
Â
Over at Miami, the divers wrapped up their weekend.

Jason Lenzo in eighth (288.80).
Alexis Lumaj compiled 249.80 points on the 1-meter board, taking fifth place.
Â
THURSDAY
The biggest time of the night came in the men's 200 IM when
Cedric Buessing reset a six-year-old school record. The reigning two-time GLVC Swimmer of the Year earned a win with a lightning-fast 1:46.47 to edge the old mark of 1:46.81, set by Rodrigo Codo Berti at the 2018 NCAA DII Championships.
Â
Meanwhile, sophomore
Celina Schmidt won the women's 200 IM, improving her B-cut time with a 2:01.01, good for fourth on the UIndy all-time top 10.
Â
With its sprinting depth on full display, UIndy scored a ton of points in the men's 50 free, taking six of the top seven spots in the A final. After
Joao Silva put up UIndy's first sub-20 time of the season in the morning prelims, two Greyhounds hit the milestone in the evening. Silva improved both his PR and his B-cut status with a winning time of 19.75, while newcomer
Oskar Sawicki took second with a 19.98. Two more Greyhounds hit the B standard in the race, as
Diego Mas (20.05) finished third and
Aqeel Joseph (20.07) took fourth.
Â
The women's sprinters also posted some remarkable times. Four Hounds recorded B times on the day, led by
Savannah Mueller's prelim time of 23.48. She ultimately tied for third in the A final, followed by
Stefanie Markwardt in fifth and
Isabella Revstedt in sixth.
Leticia Vaselli won the B final with a B time of 23.82.

Â
The night was sandwiched by successful relay races, with the UIndy men winning the 200 FR and the Greyhound women taking gold in the 400 MR. The quartet of Silva, Mas, Sawicki and
Bartosz Mielniczuk improved UIndy's provisional time in the 200 free relay, combining for a 1:18.84. Later, the team of
Caroline Reinke, Schmidt, Markwadt and Revstedt hit a provo time of 3:43.70 in their 400 medley relay win.
Â
The final race of the night—the men's 400 MR—saw
Jeron Thompson,
Brayden Cole,
Elias Noe and Silva combine for an NCAA provisional time of 3:12.72 to score runner-up points.

The 800 free relay team of Schmidt, Gomez,
Lillie Arps and Brynhildur Traustadittir took silver (7:31.02).
