#7 Men’s Tennis Triumphs over #16 Washburn

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The first day of a two day road stand in St. Louis was a success for the No. 7-ranked UIndy men's tennis team, taking a 5-2 victory over No. 16 Washburn, the first ranked victory of the season for the Greyhounds!

INS & OUTS
For the first time this season, the Greyhounds did not claim the doubles point. After a strong start by the No. 1-ranked pairing of Tom Zeuch and Edgar Destouet, who won 6-0, the Washburn Ichabods claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Singles is where the Greyhounds shined however. The highlight of the match was a ranked battle between No. 28 Zeuch and No. 35 Sebastian Pjontek in the No. 2 singles spot. Zeuch, after a close first set shut the door in Pjontek's face with a dominant 6-0 set two. Destouet stayed strong in the No. 1 singles spot yet again. His first set he grabbed an early lead and never gave it up, eventually securing the first 6-3. The second set Destouet started slow, but stayed the course eventually claiming a 6-4 second.

Nikolaj Talimaa was dominant early in his match, jumping to a four game lead in the first set. That early aggression carried well into his second set where he replicated his first set victory. August Ehrnrooth continues to impress in his freshman campaign, scoring a 6-3, 7-6 victory for the Hounds. Rounding out the Greyhound victories was Erwan Momo Andre at No. 5 singles where he fought off a first set loss to eventually comeback and win the tiebreaker set.
