ALLENDALE, Mich. – Up north in the cold of Allendale, Mich., the No. 7-ranked Greyhounds dominated in-region rival Grand Valley State, taking all nine matches on route to a 7-0 victory over the Lakers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds, with the ultimate advantage in the No. 1 doubles pairing in the country, jumped out to an early advantage with the aforementioned top-ranked pairing of
Tom Zeuch and
Edgar Destouet getting first blood with a 6-2 win.
Nikolaj Talimaa and
Jason Gerweck in the three-hole followed that with a 7-5 win to ice the doubles point. However, the Greyhounds made the doubles point even sweeter with a win by
Louis Picaud and Erwan Andre Momo.
From then on the Hounds played like fire with Destouet leading the charge out the No. 1 singles slot. His 6-1, 6-0 win was just the first of the dominant performances being laid out. Zeuch won 6-3, 6-4, followed shortly by Talimaa who had straight 6-2 sets, securing the match victory for the Hounds. Momo Andre, Picaud and
Thomas Mathis made the sweep happen, all three winning in straight sets. Mathis' win at No. 6 singles marked his debut for the Greyhounds in team action.
