#8 Greyhounds Cruise Past Lakers

ALLENDALE, Mich. – In the first of a two match Michigan stay, the Hounds battled it out with the Grand Valley State Lakers, winning 6-1 against their perennial-Midwest rival.

INS AND OUTS
The reigning ITA Midwest doubles champions in Sofia Sharonova and Anna Novikova set the tone for the match, claiming a 6-4 victory. Maissane Aik and Maria Fiacan followed that performance with a victory of their own, earning the doubles point win for the Greyhounds.

From there it was a Hound show, Aik dominated at the No. 2 spot, winning in straight sets, dropping only four games. Novikova, the multiple time ITA All-American, was deadly in the No. 1 slot as she has been for the past few season. A 6-2 first set victory led into a 6-4 second set for the veteran. The Lakers fought back, however, claiming a win at No. 3 singles before Lea Cakarevic shut the door with a fiery 6-0 first set win, followed by a 6-4 second set. Margarita Andreiuk fought off an intense first set, but was lights out in her second, winning 6-0. Diane Flament, the veteran out of France, made light work out of her opponent, winning 6-1, 6-2.
