Bailey Crowned Greyhound Open Champion

INDIANAPOLIS – Capping off a weekend with eight different home events, the No. 6-ranked UIndy wresting team hosted the Greyhound Open in the ARC with six different mats running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Logan Bailey was the top man at the 157lbs weight class, claiming his second tournament victory of the season.

The No. 4-ranked Bailey started the day with a bye. He took the extra rest to great use snagging a fall against a Quincy Hawk in the second round, with it being one of his fastest this season in only 39 seconds. He followed that up with a major over a McKendree-foe, a team the Greyhounds will battle just a week from today. His next two opponents would be Division I Purdue Boilermakers, with Bailey proving he can beat anyone from any division, pinning his first Boilermaker adversary in just 42 seconds.

In the finals Bailey stormed to lead in the first and second period with a pair of takedowns. Period three he went onto get the riding time point, securing a 7-0 victory and the 157 title. In his four matches on the day Bailey was perfect, not giving up a single point.

Rodgers, who has been very successful in tournaments all season, kept that going at 197. After receiving a bye in the first, he grabbed a 6-2 win over a Kentucky Wesleyan foe. After a close battle in the semi in which Rodgers lost 4-3, he found victory yet again in the consolation semis with a 9-3 win, sending him to the third-place match. That was a battle of strength with Rodgers coming out on top, winning 6-3.

Aidan Petersen has a similar run to Rodgers, receiving a first round bye as well. He went on to pin his Indiana Tech challenger in 4:34. That carried into a win in the quarterfinals via a 12-8 decision. He fell, however, in the semis to a DI-foe from SI Edwardsville in the quarterfinals.

An injury forfeit in the consolation semis sent him to the third place match where it was yet another Boilermaker foe for a Greyhounds, this time Purdue coming out on top via a 8-5 decision.

HOUND BYTES
Bailey on his win…
"It feels really good, I didn't expect much less coming into this tournament. I knew what I was capable of, and it went well."

Bailey on knocking off two Purdue wrestlers…
"I knew I was capable of competing with those guys, it was a lot of fun, wrestling is wrestling in my eyes, regardless of division."

Warthan on the busy weekend..
"It is a big weekend and I think everybody that was healthy, got matches in and competed. For some this is the last weekend of their season at the Greyhound open. Yesterday we got a couple region opponent matches in, an although those weren't as competitive as some of the other duels we've had, those were important for seeds and getting to see some of those guys. So it was all in all a good weekend."
