Baseball Takes Two More From Davenport, Improves to 11-0

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team picked up a complete series sweep of the Davenport Panthers at Greyhound Park on Saturday afternoon to improve to perfect 11-0 on the season. The last time a UIndy baseball team started a season off 11-0 was back in 1997.

GAME 1 | UIndy 7, Davenport 4 (7 innings)
Both teams were locked in a 3-3 stalemate as action progressed into the fourth inning of the seven-inning affair. With the help of an Adam Rakestraw walk, a Will Spear single, and an Easton Good fielder's choice, the bases were loaded with nobody out in the bottom half of the inning. Brandon DeWitt would notch a walk at the plate to give UIndy the lead which was then followed up by a Drew Donaldson RBI single that scored two insurance runs. This proved to be the difference-maker in the contest, helping UIndy lock up another victory over the Panthers.

On offense, the Greyhounds managed eight hits as Caleb Vaughn led the team with two. Donaldson guided the Hounds with his two RBIs.

Despite UIndy being tabbed with three fielding errors in the game, the team held steady behind the arms of DeWitt and Wyatt Phillips. DeWitt got the start and the win on the bump by going 5-2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Phillips corralled the save with a pair of strikeouts.

GAME 2 | UIndy 2, Davenport 1 (10 innings)
The Hounds found the scoreboard first in the third inning when Vaughn landed an RBI single through the left side. Despite this, the Panthers rallied in the seventh and knotted things up with just two innings left to play.

Play progressed past the traditional nine innings into extras, and this proved favorable for UIndy in the end. On the winning play, Nick Lukac drilled a ball to the second baseman who then made a throwing error trying to get him out at first. Because of this, Brady Ware was able to round the bases from second and step on home as the Hounds celebrated a clean sweep of the Panthers.

As a team, UIndy had five hits on offense which came from five different players. In the field, Logan Peterson earned the start on the mound and went a solid seven complete innings of work with four strikeouts. Ware picked up the winning decision while recording four K's.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will be right back at Greyhound Park on Friday, March 17 as they will face Maryville in some GLVC action. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET and is subject to change.
