Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
With two on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, the Hounds had their final chance to walk it off against the Hawks. After
Denton Shepler reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners,
Nick Lukac hit a harder grounder to third for the final out of the evening to end the threat.
Â
The Hawks opened the scoring with four runs in the fourth, including a three-run dinger from Dustin Dupont following a failed replay challenge by UIndy skipperÂ
Al Ready. Trailing by six in the UIndy half of the fifth,
Zack Williams singled up the middle to score Vaughn – who had just doubled – and
Drew Donaldson to cut within two.
Â
The Greyhounds and Hawks traded runs in the seventh, as Shepler chased Vaughn home on a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-5. Quincy reliever Cruz Meier earned the one-out save, inducing the groundout from Lukac to close out the game.
