EAST PEORIA, Ill.—The top-seeded UIndy softball team endured its first loss of the 2023 GLVC Championship Tournament, falling 1-0 to two-seeded Missouri St. Louis Saturday night. The Tritons pushed across a single unearned tally in the top of the fifth as the night's lone run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
All-American pitcher
Kenzee Smith sat down the first 13 Tritons in order, until a one-out error in the fifth inning resulted in their first base runner. A sac bunt put the runner in scoring position before a two-out double plated what proved to be the only run of the game.
Â
Despite battling a stingy pitcher themselves in Annie Scaramuzzi, UIndy had its opportunities. UIndy stranded two runners in the third inning, left the bases loaded in the fifth, and had the tying run on second in the bottom of the seventh but could not produce the timely hit.
Â
Smith tossed her third qualify outing in as many days but fell to 30-4 as the tough-luck loser. She allowed just two hits, striking out nine while walking none.
Â
Jocelyn Calvin finished 2-for-4 at te plate, including a double in the seventh inning.
Megan Nichols had a single, a walk and a hit by pitch in three plate appearances while also adding a stolen base.
