INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy men's basketball head coach
Paul Corsaro announced the team's 2023-24 schedule on Tuesday.
Â
In addition to 28 regular-season games, the GLVC Championship Tournament is set to begin March 7, with NCAA Midwest Regional action opening March 16 and the Elite Eight on March 27.
Â
UIndy visits Indiana University for an exhibition game on Sunday, Oct. 29, the Hounds' first trip to Bloomington since the 2017-18 campaign. Tip time for the exhibition will be announced at a later date.
Â
"We are extremely excited to get the opportunity to play in Assembly Hall, one of 'The Cathedrals' of college basketball and against a historic 'Blue-Blood' program," remarked Corsaro. "This will be a tremendous test for us prior to starting regular season play."
Â
The Greyhounds boast a tough non-conference schedule, adding to the 20-game GLVC slate this winter, featuring six in-region opponents: Grand Valley State, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lake Superior State, Parkside, Saginaw Valley State, and Thomas More. UIndy will also battle Emporia State and Pitt-Johnstown in road bouts.
Â
"This will be the toughest non-conference schedule in my time as head coach," said Corsaro. "We are playing an 'All Division-II' schedule with no games vs. Division-III or NAIA opponents, something that has been customary in the past. We open up versus an NCAA Tournament team from last year in Parkside and follow that up by playing storied-program Kentucky Wesleyan on the road."
Â
UIndy opens league play on Nov. 30, hosting Southwest Baptist for a 7:30 p.m. tip from Nicoson Hall. Other notable conference dates include January 20 when the Greyhounds welcome McKendree back to Indianapolis since the 2023 Midwest Regional and February 8 in the first-ever meeting with Upper Iowa.
Â
"The GLVC is the toughest conference in Division-II year in and year out," Corsaro said. "Twenty games against GLVC teams poses a big challenge in itself. There will be zero nights off with this season's schedule."
Â
Joining Upper Iowa as first-time opponents for the Hounds are Emporia State, Pitt-Johnstown, and Thomas More, the latter of which will be in its first season competing in NCAA Division II.
Â
Corsaro continued: "We also have huge challenges heading to Kansas to play at Emporia State (23-9, top-25 ranked, and NCAA Tournament team last year) and to Michigan to play at Grand Valley State for the second straight year."
Â
The Greyhounds cap the regular season at reigning Midwest champion Missouri-St. Louis and McKendree on Feb. 29 and Mar. 2, respectively.
Â
UIndy begins team activity earlier than usual this season, as the program takes an international trip to Nova Scotia, Canada from August 13-19. The NCAA grants teams to take an international tour once every four years.
Â
While in Nova Scotia, home of student-athlete
Josiah Tynes, the Greyhounds will play three games – two against Canadian colleges and one versus a national All-Star team – and participate in three activities and educational excursions related to the local culture.
Â
In addition, the team will host a free basketball camp/clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as a way to give back to the community.
