UIndy Sweeps Saturday, Ups Win Streak to Six

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The UIndy volleyball team (10-2) upped its winning streak to six on Saturday, earning two more sweeps over Glenville State and Lock Haven on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

While it was first-ever meeting with Glenville State, the Greyhounds won their third match in the series with Lock Haven and are now 3-0 against the Bald Eagles.

Three Greyhounds were voted to the All-Tournament following the team's perfect weekend: Claire Morris, Sophia Parlanti, and Hannah Sabotin

UIndy 3, Glenville State 0
The Hounds set the tone for the match after a powerful first set of hitting .483 as a team. Parlanti and Sabotin each dropped down five kills in the opener, while Ellie Spang joined Parlanti with two service aces apiece.

UIndy held steady in the final two frames, the defense stepping up to close out the sweep. After failing to record a block in the first set, the Greyhounds recorded six over the final 40 minutes, while limiting the Pioneers to .064 attacking.

The libero Spang was resilient on the back line, scooping up a three-set, season-best 18 digs. Grace Hegwood joined the rookie in double figures with 14 scoops, adding eight kills to her final line.

Morris, who was relieved of setting duties midway through the third set, still managed to dish out 38 assists to her teammates.

UIndy 3, Lock Haven 0
UIndy kept its foot on the gas, finishing off Lock Haven in a brisk 57 minutes. Six players recorded a kill in the first set against the Bald Eagles, with Lauren Cullison and Elizabeth Eads leading the team with three apiece. Overall, the Hounds attacked at a .453 clip, while holding the Bald Eagles to .000 hitting.

Sabotin led all players – again – with 11 kills in the win, as Parlanti was just behind her teammate with 10. Morris dished out another 34 assists, while successfully putting away each of her attack attempts.

The Greyhounds totaled 10 blocks in the sweep, half of which came in the third frame. Morris, Parlanti, and Sabotin each contributed a solo stop, with the UIndy setter also tallying five block assists.

One last bit on Sabotin: the Columbus, Ind., native recorded a .667 hitting percentage, the eighth time this fall she has hit .538 or better in a contest.

HOUND BYTES
ON ANOTHER NOTE
Maddie Berger entered late in both contests, totaling six kills on 11 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage.
