UIndy Handles Drury, Matches Longest Winning Streak in Decade

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball won its eighth consecutive match on Saturday, handedly sweeping Drury from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center in just over an hour. Sophia Parlanti bounced back with an impressive performance, adding 13 digs to her 10 kills on .556 hitting.

It is the first time in a decade the Greyhounds have won eight straight contests, when the 2013 squad rattled off 11 in a row, the last four of which came in the postseason. UIndy has also now claimed each of the last 16 sets over its past six matches.

INS & OUTS
The Hounds defensively dominated on Saturday, limiting the visiting Panthers to a mere .071 attacking, including -.032 in the opening set. UIndy recorded four its nine blocks in that first frame, with Grace Hegwood joining middles Elizabeth Eads and Hannah Sabotin with two apiece.

Parlanti came alive in the second, slamming down half of her 10 kills in the set. The Las Vegas native also scooped up six digs in that time, helping the Greyhounds side out at a 78 percent clip.

UIndy never looked back, capping off the sweep with a kill from freshman Meredith Simmons. Setter Claire Morris dished out her 32nd and final assists on the play, while finishing with her second double-double of the fall with 11 digs.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Rookie libero Ellie Spang tallied 17 digs on Saturday, averaging 5.2 scoops per set in the pair of league sweeps this weekend.
- The Greyhounds hit .315 in the win, the sixth time this season the team has attacked above .300 in a match with Morris at setter.
- Sabotin recorded nine kills on .500 hitting, adding five blocks and three digs to her final line.
- In addition to Simmons, fellow freshman Macy Bruton saw action in third set, tallying one service ace and one dig.
